If you are going to cover the Charge of the Light Brigade, at least do your research. The majority of casualties in the British cavalry was inflicted by a counter attack by Russian heavy cavalry, NOT the Russian guns. The Light Brigade took the Russian guns successfully, but they were not backed up by reinforcements.

Every wars with turkey wasn't about expansion, Crimea was center of raids inside russia and biggest slave trader outpost supported by turkey(who bought slaves) until Crimea was taken ensuring security of russian south. Then Caucasian Christians asked for help of the empra and Caucasus were taken from Turkey. Then just before Crimean war Balkan Christians asked for help from Turkish oppressions This time war was about taking Constantinople(stambul) (which rightfully belongs to russia through the marriage Of byzantine princess sofia paleolog on Ivan the third knyaz of moscow) and free balkans of Turkish tyranny. Almost successed Russia become to powerfull so France and Britain intervened on Turkish side.

It's a paradox but the only country which benefits from that conflict is the country which isn't involved directly. It's Prussia. Disgusted by the betrayal of Austria Russians didn't support her in conflict against Prussia. And Russians did nothing against Prussians in their war against France. Prussians used the post Crimean war hostilities to become Germany and thus become a Great Power.

@pavel ya You're trying to change the subject and target Europe for no reason, or you're trying to justify Russian aggression by pointing towards Europe and USA, Ukraine was not in EU or NATO, so I don't get your excuse for defending Russian Federation aggression towards Ukraine.

@Dmitri Kulkevičius You are talking like a woman , you use emotions and adjectives like a base of your views. You’re not talking about Other big countries like European Union, like United States like China, because every propaganda is very selective, Talk about one small thing and forget about another big one. Boring, Brainwashed.

Half a league, half a league, Half a league onward, All in the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. “Forward, the Light Brigade! Charge for the guns!” he said. Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. “Forward, the Light Brigade!” Was there a man dismayed? Not though the soldier knew Someone had blundered. Theirs not to make reply, Theirs not to reason why, Theirs but to do and die. Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them, Cannon in front of them Volleyed and thundered; Stormed at with shot and shell, Boldly they rode and well, Into the jaws of Death, Into the mouth of hell Rode the six hundred. Flashed all their sabres bare, Flashed as they turned in air Sabring the gunners there, Charging an army, while All the world wondered. Plunged in the battery-smoke Right through the line they broke; Cossack and Russian Reeled from the sabre stroke Shattered and sundered. Then they rode back, but not Not the six hundred. Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them, Cannon behind them Volleyed and thundered; Stormed at with shot and shell, While horse and hero fell. They that had fought so well Came through the jaws of Death, Back from the mouth of hell, All that was left of them, Left of six hundred. When can their glory fade? O the wild charge they made! All the world wondered. Honour the charge they made! Honour the Light Brigade, Noble six hundred!

What is always missing in the Western perspective is: For most peoples of Balcans, Russians came as liberators from the hated Turks ;-)
Br Mohamedanis
Br Mohamedanis 26 kun oldin
That's not true.. that's a Russian and Western propaganda All of this is a modern-nationalist propaganda, after all the purge and atrocities that the Russians did in those regions, before Russians there were mostly no identities in the Balkans.. in order for Russia to conquer and steal those regions, they created identities to make their invasion look legal.. and what made things look "more legal" today (which isn't btw) is the atrocities they did there from massacres and deportations and naming modern-countries after ancient one, just like the Brits did when they created a country in 1820s and named it Greece and decided who is native and who isn't. Russians and Brits weren't liberators, they were conquerors.. and after the conquests and their atrocities, they left just their people to make their interventions look like liberation.

@Br Mohamedanis In the time of Nicholas 1, the capture of Istanbul was primarily of military and economic importance. Ideology (religion) took second place here. It all started with the fact that the French (Catholics) demanded privileges from the Sultan in the religious issue. The Sultan granted their wish. And the Russians didn't like it. Napoleon 3 fiercely desired war with Russia and sought any excuse for it. For reference, Turkey and Russia were allies for about 15-20 years before the Crimean War. Modern countries need to behave more restrained and reasonable. Any escalation of the conflict can lead to uncertain and unexpected consequences.
Br Mohamedanis
Br Mohamedanis 26 kun oldin
@Галактический Патриарх I'm just replying to the logic of this man talking about religions, not to yours, because it seem you are different and i do not have any problem with you.. however the logic of this man spreading lies and stereotypes is just annoying and dangerous the logic of Christian Russians have every right to claim Istanbul and Hagia Sophia and everything, but No one care about the Caucasus Muslims.. i mean it's really annoying dealing with such things everytime, specially when it comes from people ignorant about such subjects or do it on purpose to talk only about one side and hide the other So again i was just replying to the hypocrite logic.. meanwhile your logic isn't hypocrite so don't be offended,

@Br Mohamedanis Watch less TV. "Dozens of nations".. and why not all the nationalities of Russia? Can you bring proof that "dozens of peoples" want to be freed from the "Russian occupation"? Otherwise, it all looks groundless and unfounded. I can't stand those who shout that Russia should break up. If Russia breaks up, it will be the greatest disaster for the whole world. Let me remind you that Russia has several tens of thousands of nuclear warheads, tens of thousands of samples of equipment and millions of small arms. Imagine what would happen in this case. I have many representatives of non-Russian nationality in my friends and relatives. I assure you that they don't even know about it ( as you told me). Russia is a multinational country. Give me examples of the" inhuman " attitude of Russians to representatives of other nationalities. In Russia, no one has thought about the "shield on the gates of Tsar-Grad"for 120 years. In Russia, the rights of Muslims are not infringed.

okay this is just pathetic. 2:30, 3:41 and 8:01 made me see just how biased is western history research. I'm Polish and I actually have reasons to hate the Russian Empire, yet I know I wouldn't portray them an evil pathetic bear - it would ba biased approach. And British in 8:01 ? As a glorious lion and French as z pathetic but wholesome bird? What kind of English nationalistic brat made this art? It makes all you say not credible at all. Like a propaganda video. All facts check out, but the imagery is extremely biased and honestly harmful. Let's make a clean distinction. You either make a serious informative video or a meme. I would fit perfectly in Sam O'Nella videos because it would be an obvious joke. But here? You are trying to get to documentary level quality, and you are extremely serious about it. It honestly looks like Britain centric propaganda video.

interesting animation but sadly misses important historical points and get others totally wrong. eg the charge of the light brigade 'was a total failure'. The light Brigade were tasked with capturing the Russian guns. Though their losses were very high and their attack badly planned down a valley with Russians shooting down from the mountains as well and straight at them down the valley , they did in fact obtain the objective and capture the guns. So although fool hardy, it did in fact succeed in the immediate objective it was tasked with despite overwhelming odds. And sadly they then just left and did it all over again back down the same valley with no overall strategic achievement.

So glad this is here! I need this for my A Level history and I am NOT spending several hours to get the details of the battles because that's far too tedious. I will say that at times the dates are unclear and it gets confusing, such as the Naval engagement at Port Cena. When did that happen? How many were involved? When was the conference held? I know it sounds pedantic but these are important details that can make things much clearer. Despite my small complaint it is still an amazing and simple shortened documentary. Thanks Armchair Historian!! Also I'm a cadet of the Royal Lancers. Who were formed through amalgamation of the cavalry of the Light Brigade. Death or Glory!
