Why do all reviewers only talk about features and specs and gigabytes when those pretty much never make any difference to like over 90% of users? Most people have internet access that is 100mbit/s or less. It does not matter at all, if your router can do jiggilybits per microsecond through fiftieth gen mimomamomoomoo. What by far most people need is a device that can connect what ever comes from their wall (or sometimes from their 4G or 5G modem) and connect that with an ethernet cable to desktop machines and through wifi to laptops, TVs and tablets, though in USA, where you actually have to pay by megabytes, people probably have to use wifi with smartphones too. Anyhow, no matter how many giggilyjiggylies per second some routers wifi can transfer, the connection to internet will never be faster than the - tada - internet connection, so even if you want to use all your devices at once, a fast wifi will not help, unless you are running a home server and are mostly transferring stuff from there and to there, which by far the most people do not. I would be a lot more useful to talk about how secure on insecure some network device is. Does the company have a good reputation and does it actively offer firmware updates to its devices to patch security holes. Many different brands use pretty much the same hardware - is this hardware known to have unpatched/unpatchable security issues and is the user interface easy to use. If only it was more commonly said, that WPS should not exist, that all wifi and maintenance passwords should be changed and SSID changed so that it does not reveal the make or model of the device. A good practice from manufacturers would be to use individual default passwords in all devices, unlike it usually is. EDIT: Also having an auto update firmware -feature would be a good one as most people never even look at their routers after initial installation. And yes, this was an unboxing or showcase and not a review, but still.

Though in the U.S.A. one has choices, we in most foreign countries do not have the option of changing router's. In Mexico, the routers are provided based on the service one pays for. Only by increasing or decreasing ones service does one get a different router. Mexico and others internet abilities are extreme antiquaited. We are subject to utilizing any and all the old technology from the countries that are able to upgrade to newer tech. For the past 7 years due to my place of residence in Mazatlan, Sinaloa. I've had to deal with a connection speed at best only 500k not K download speed and 50k not K upload. And a ping rate which at best was 250. A month ago much to my surprise they updated to a fiber optic system in which there isn't any "LAST MILE". Playing on line video games utilizing multi-play is now available. Though there are a number of choices. I now have 259M down load, 500 upload and a ping rate of 2. But as I said, one still only can utilize the router they issue when choosing a package.

You hane to see some videos from Environmental Health Trust channel to learn about EMF radiation safety. From connectivity point it is also stupit solution, because high frequency waves foorly penetrate walls. If you cannot pull cable just use Ethernet over power-line adapters.

Oh, nice. Might actually upgrade at some point just so I can use AIMesh with my Asus RT-AC86U. I don't know what the heck is in my walls because it feels like I'd kinda need a little range even though the RT-AC86U should be enough but my bedroom seems to be a damn bunker with bad reception. It feels stupid though as I only have a 100Mb connection :D

This works for cable connections but not so much for Fiber. My provider is "requiring" the use of their router. I think they're using the router to authenticate on the network (mac address most likely).

im really confused on how this all works, do you just plug this in instead of the one provided by your network provider? and just get better wifi for no extra cost? can someone please explain
Esponer
Esponer 17 kun oldin
That's the idea. The network provider gives you a certain download and upload speed to your house (ADSL/fibre broadband). If you're plugged into the router via Ethernet and do a speed test, you're testing the limit of what the ISP is giving you. Your Wi-Fi set-up is a local affair, and won't be as fast as the connection over Ethernet (so plug your desktop in). You can absolutely get a router with faster Wi-Fi and basically get a better % of your full wired speed. Bear in mind the computer connecting has to support that faster speed (only very new laptops support Wi-Fi 6)!
