When I was working with brick layers we would have to hold this material the brick layers would pound in place with a ram gun. Basically a small jackhammer with a rubber mallet st the end. If the bricklayer fd up and smashed your finger you get to punch him in the gut. This game would not play as well with knives. Stab me I stab you sounds really not fun.

How much are you willing to pay for your chicken breast or ham steak? Better conditions will cost a significant amount of money. And being a publicly traded company there is no way that they would not pass along the cost. I believe the root of this corporate evil starts with the stock exchange. When you are listed, you answer to your board of directors, who are major share holders, and the public shareholders as well. Everyone in the market wants hourly profits on their investments. Nobody holds stocks as a long-term investment anymore. Taking a company private is always a good move for a company and it's employees.

I worked two summers in a chicken processing plant in the 90s, and I still have pretty serious issues from the RMI I got. I saw a lot of minor and moderate injuries, nearly daily, and a couple of significant injuries. Generally, they were the result of a worker being irresponsible and cutting corners or clowning around, but some were clearly due to sheer fatigue or the sometimes unreasonable speed demanded by the floor supervisors.
Kuroda Cursus
Kuroda Cursus 11 kun oldin
This is what happens when companies get away with being considered a 'person' under the law. They get reasonable fines for an individual, but not a mass producing capitalistic behemoth. They should start being charged x2 the hospital fees for the workers harmed in their plant. That'll easily reach in a satisfactory amount.
seigeengine

If an individual brought in $50B a year, they should also get more than $15k in fines for killing six people.

I work for a meat processing business. I get paid great and our company has taken very good care of all of us. Not Tyson, but it's a very large company. I don't know how Tyson does their thing, but our company has given us multiple pay raises, provided PPE, testing and started medical leave before the government required it. We've gotten bonuses, they pay for our medical insurance. The whole nine. So, I'm just saying it's unfair to label the entire industry this way.

Everything he says is true and it’s not nearly as bad as it really. The meat processing companies have the plant workers backs against the walls as well as the farmers contracted to them. It’s hard to imagine worst working conditions except for a war zone a concentration camp or a Haitian prison.

Fun fact!: In 2008 or 9, I had cooked a grocery store brand chicken patty and put it on a hamburger bun with ketchup and was eating it for lunch. I bit down on something that was in the chicken patty that wasn't meat. I pulled it out of my mouth and looked at it. It very much in appearance and feel resembled a acrylic fingernail. I immediately lost my appetite and threw away the rest of my sandwich. A week later I threw the rest of bag of chicken patties into the woods behind the house, having not eaten another one and coming to the conclusion that I never would. I've never bought another bag of chicken patties of that brand. After this video, I'm more convinced that I've probably eaten part of someone's finger. We stopped buying anything from Tyson after the story about the managers placing bets.

What solutions are there for changing how companies and corporations are fined for worker deaths? I'm sure we start getting into utilitarian territory when we start to think about what the value of a life is, so things can get gray and arbitrary. I have seen in the comments how Finland fines parking violators on a percentage basis as opposed to one of lump sums. Germany implements a ramp-up policy where the fine increases as the number of days an employee can't work increases; the slope here is variable depending on the situation (or something similar to this policy). From looking at it first hand, percentages seem to be the way to go. The more money you make, an hence the more power you accumulate, the harder the fall, more responsibilities there are, and more money you have to cough up. The problem here arises when you look at monopolistic industries where 1 company dominates the landscape, as well as the specific type of industry. What comes to mind are electric utilities. Depending on the scale of the catastrophe, the utility might be fined so hard that in order to stay afloat, they need to lay workers off, cut back which regions/communities have electricity at all, and/or overcharge their customers to make up for the fine. A better system might not be a blanket percentage fine on a company's earning, but possibly something where the percentage is variable between lowest and highest level employees. Think if a company is fined, the majority of the money to pay that fine comes from the CEO, then the next highest comes from CTOs/CFOs/COOs/etc., then business managers, department managers, project leaders, expert employees, intermediate employees, and novice employees. You'd have to figure out how to factor in merit at this point too, since the younger/less experienced worker tends to make the most failures. This solution definitely isn't perfect if I start thinking about merit. Food for though! Take care guys ✌️

I wouldn't think I would ever cry for a John Oliver video. This was hard. I'm really sorry for all those people and myself as I'm working in a similar job. I worked during the whole pandemic and still working. I felt ill a couple of times but my covid-19 test request was rejected as my "symptoms were mild". Annual pay rise skipped twice "because of the hard times for the business during the pandemic" meanwhile the business received a huge amount of business support from the government, all the head office colleagues worked from home, 70% of head office and shop managers on furlough since April 2020 and getting their 80% of salaries for zero work, some of them are working for the second job and doubled their income. Pandemic hit some of us in the working class really hard, some of us already dead, rest of us become poorer than ever before.

Here's the thing, if the workers join a Union, and I strongly recommend the IWW, aka the wobblies, they can collectively bargain for their rights purely by unified lightning strikes if their demands aren't met.. So, for a start, why aren't they wearing chainmail gloves on their holding hand? It's standard H&S practice for all butchers in the UK, unless they're at a much higher grade.. Facemasks on the production line, more spacing, etc, etc.. All far quicker solved by a Union explaining the benefits of happier, safer and therefore more productive staff..

In Australia OHS issues are raised at a monthly meeting with management representatives and are minuted. Ohs representatives conduct hazard identification and risk assessments. If an OHS representative deems a machine or work practice unsafe they have the power to issue the company with a PIN notice (provisional improvement notice) which gives the company 2 weeks to rectify the problem or that machine or work practice is shut down. If an OHS rep deems a work practice or machine poses an immediate risk they can shut it down immediately. In both of those instances the OHS representative is required to inform the governing body (WorkSafe) immediately. As for the practice of preventing employees using the toilet, an employer would have WorkSafe all over them if they even tried that. America needs to toughen up their Labor laws.
